Looking at the current league table, it would seem things haven't much changed since then. How counterfeit that is. Norwich are unbeaten in 5, whereas Wolves haven't won in 5, losing 3 times. Uninspiring play has turned into absolute dross recently, a slight resurgence against Leicester aside. I find the excuse that it's Kightly's absence that has caused recent shocking performances gravely comforting, at least in that case all we need to do is reinforce in January and we'll be sorted, surely?
Rubbish. We've evidently got deeper running issues than the loss of one player though, admittedly, his return couldn't come any sooner.
Can anyone actually remember what it felt like watching us last season? The pride, the passion? Hell, what it felt like to win? If the players can't, its no wonder those memories seem to be fading away rather quickly for the rest of us. Mick McCarthy's got it all to do today, as another loss could well prove his last ever for us. And if that seems presumptuous, with the prospect of the play-offs drifting 5 points further and the automatic promotion slots (our pre-season target) fading 12 points out of focus should results go against us, its going to be even tougher for him to hold onto his job with an indignant Molineux crowd baying for blood against Sheffield United.
Then again I do tend to paint an incredibly negative picture- chuff it, we'll give 'em a good doing! Perhaps Seyi and Mick's post match comments weren't a load of media spiele and we really will see the boys bounce back in emphatic style under pressure. Maybe this is when we kick-start our season and our promotion campaign! Its only a Glenn Roeder team anyway, the guy always seems to start well, only to descend into inevitable failure, and the omens are promising for a Wolves win, Norwich not having lost in five and Wolves not having won in five!
I've made my mind up, 4-0 to Wolves, all four of our strikers getting on the score sheet! Mick to keep his job and us to win the league by 20 clear points. Look at Sunderland, they did it!
