WilliamsF1 outside top ten in 2nd Friday practice

Mark in twelfth

All three WilliamsF1 drivers would finish outside the top ten after the running of the 2nd Friday practice for the US Grand Prix. Mark Webber was in twelfth followed by Alex Wurz in nineteenth and Nico Rosberg twenty fourth. There would appear to be a lot of work to do to be ready for Saturday.

With Alex Wurz finishing the opening Friday practice only in eighth and neither Nark Webber or Nico Rosberg taking to the track the second practice session would be vital for the team. With the start of the session there would be a rush of drivers leaving the pit lane, including Doornbos, Mondini, Kubica, Yamamoto, Alex, Jani, Davidson, and Albers. The first time would be set by Mondini with a 1m:15.234 but he was beaten by Kubica, 1m:14.729, and Wurz, 1m:15.014. But it would be Davidson who would move to the top of the times with a lap of 1m:13.980. Kubica and Alex were in second and third. They were followed by Mondini, Jani, Doornbos, and Albers.

WebberThe second MF1 of Monteiro would join his team-mate out on the track as Kubica pitted. Scott Speed would leave the pit lane. Jani was now in fourth, 1m:15.154. Liuzzi would join Speed out on the track. Davidson would pit joined by Albers. Kubica had lowered his time with a 1m:14.292. Speed's first lap would see him in sixth, 1m:15.392. Montagny would spin and stall his Super Aguri, ending his session. Speed was now in third with a 1m:14.764. Coulthard would come out , joined by Trulli. Kubica was on a quick lap which would see him move to the top of the times with a 1m:13.224.

Massa was out for his first laps of the day, after failing to run in the first practice session. Ralf Schumacher was also out, joined by Barrichello. Alex was again putting in an extensive number of laps, with fifteen minutes run he had completed twelve. Massa was now in second with a 1m:13.264. After his spin in the first practice Michael Schumacher was back out. Barrichello was now in fourth, 1m:14.574. Liuzzi and Coulthard were in ninth and tenth. Villeneuve was also on the track. On his first lap Michael would move ahead of Rubens and not fourth, 1m:13.380. Alex was now in seventh.

With forty minutes remaining Kubica was still fastest as Massa pitted. Villeneuve's first lap would see him in fifteenth. Trulli was now in seventh, 1m:14.645, while Alex was now in eighth. For the first time we would get to see Mark come out, joined by Nico and Klien. Jani was now in eighth pushing Alex down one place. Button was also out on the circuit. The first of the Renault's, that of Fisichella, was out on the track.

Rosberg & WebberButton and Mark were now in fourth and fifth, Mark's time was a 1m:13.928. Alex was now in twelfth. Nico's first lap would see him in fourteenth, 1m:15.241. But Nico would drop to sixteenth. Fisichella would move up into sixth, 1m:13.790.

Mark was now seventh while Nico had moved up the order to now be in ninth, 1m:14.680. Fisichella's next lap would see him go fastest, 1m:12.933. Alonso was also out on the circuit. All three WilliamsF1 drivers were still out running with just over thirty minutes remaining. Alonso's first lap, 1m:13.750, would see him in seventh. Alex had completed twenty three laps. Mark would pit joined by Fisichella. Nico would also pit leaving just Alex to continue his long runs. Now it was the turn of Heidfeld and Montoya to leave the pit lane leaving just Raikkonen yet to make an appearance. Kubica was now fastest with a 1m:12.809.

Raikkonen would come out for his run while Heidfeld would move into eighth, 1m:13.725. mark was now tenth and Nico twelfth. Alex was in nineteenth. Montoya was in ninth, 1m:13.911. Kimi was now in twelfth. With twenty four minutes remaining there was little in the way opposition changes. Both of the McLaren's were back in their garages. Nico would come back out with twenty minutes remaining. Alex had moved up to now be in seventeenth, 1m:14.611. Alex would final complete his runs, twenty eight laps, and return to his pit. Mark was back out. Villeneuve would improve to be in tenth.

WurzKubica would pit while Button and Alonso were out on the track. Button would pit with the order been Kubica, Fisichella, Massa, Davidson, Michael, Button, Alonso, Heidfeld, Montoya and Villeneuve. All three WilliamsF1 cars were outside the top ten. Fisichella and Massa had left the pit lane. Montoya was in ninth but Raikkonen was in fifteenth. With ten minutes left Alex was back out on the track. Giorgio Mondini was able to put together a quick lap that would see him in fifth, 1m:13.327. There was now just eight minutes left in the session. Alex was now in fifteenth, 1m:14.050. Nico was in twentieth.

Liuzzi would move into tenth. Davidson was now fastest in sector one and would continue his lap and move to the top of the times, 1m:12.013. Second placed Kubica was 0.796 second further back. With the final minutes the majority of driver were on the track. Monteiro was able to move into seventh. Mark was now in sixteenth and Nico twenty fourth. Raikkonen was now in ninth, 1m:13..554 and Mark was able to move up one place to be in fifteenth as the session came to an end. Mark's final lap would see him move into twelfth, 1m:13.691. So with the end of the session it would be Davidson from Kubica, Fisichella, Massa, Mondini, Michael, Monteiro, Button, Alonso, and Raikkonen making up the top ten.
