Hungarian GP: Williams drop off the pace in FP2

The second Friday practice session for the 2010 Hungarain GP would see the Williams team drop off the pace with Nico Hulkenberg and Rubens Barrichello finishing in 8th and 12th. Nico could take some satisfaction in leading Rubens but it was a session that did not see any real improvement from either Williams driver. Now it was is a case of whether they will be able to find extra time for Saturday.
 
 Hungarian GP Friday 2nd Practice
 

Practice for the 2010 Hungarian Grand Prix would resume with the second Friday session getting underway. First out was HRT's Yamamoto followed by Vettel and Glock. Other drivers including Webber, Petrov, Glock, and Kobayashi would take to the track. Vettel would pit after one lap while both Williams cars would also come out. Hamilton, Kubica, De la Rosa, both Lotus cars were also out on the circuit while Yamamoto would set a time of 1m:29.317 followed by Glock with a 1m:32.1010. Button was next out as Kobayashi went fastest with a 1m:24.574. Webber had also pitted while Nico Hulkenberg would move to the top of the times with a 1m:23.676 but he was passed by Petrov with a 1m:22.490.

HulkenbergHamilton was third from De la Rosa, Kobayashi, Buemi, Trulli, Kubica, and Yamamoto now down in tenth. It was very busy while Nico improved with a 1m:22.887 but remained in second while Rubens was up to third with a1m:22.992. Button was now second, 1m:22.853, with Nico and Rubens third and fourth. Kubica was now fifth from De la Rosa and Buemi. Hamilton was now third, 1m:22.859, as Petrov pitted. Alonso was now out on the circuit while on his next lap Nico would move back up to second with a 1m:22.631. Now it was Rubens turn going fastest with a time of 1m:22.468. Both Red Bull cars remained in their pits joining both Mercedes cars and Massa. Button was now fourth and Hamilton fifth. Nico would pit while Button would say that" the traffic is a nightmare."

Rubens would also pit while Hamilton had gone fastest with a 1m:22.373 and Kubica was now second. But Alonso would move ahead with a 1m:21.826 to go fastest. Both Mercedes cars were out along with Massa. Hamilton would pit along with Kubica. Liuzzi was up to thirteenth, 1m:24.699, having returned to his Force India. Button would improve to now be in second with a 1m:22.226. Massa would follow Button taking third with a 1m:22.316. Button would pit as Schumacher moved into twelfth, 1m:22.930. Rosberg was up to ninth, 1m:22.682, while neither Red Bull had set a time, but both Red Bull cars were out on the track. Alonso would improve with a 1m:21.743 as Massa moved into second,
1m:22.018. Webber's first time was a 1m:22.422 to move up to sixth. Team-mate Vettel was in eleventh, 1m:22.820.

Alonso again improved with a 1m:21.046, but Webber would also improve going fastest with a 1m:21.046. Vettel would join him at the front with a 1m:21.324 to move up to second. Alonso would pit but would come back out quickly. Massa was now in third, 1m:21.431. Webber was down to a 1m:20.881 seeing him now 0.486 ahead of Vettel. Rubens was now in ninth, 1m:22.468, while Nico was down in eleventh, 1m:22.631. Both Williams drivers were out running while Webber would pit as Vettel moved to the top of the times with a 1m:20.733. Apart from the Ferrari's the Red Bull pair were considerably quicker than the rest of the field. Nico was able to find extra time with a 1m:22.117 to move up to fifth while Button was up to sixth. Petrov was now seventh, 1m:22.278, seeing Rubens down in tenth.

Rubens would also improve his time with a 1m:22.239 while Nico had pitted. Petrov was able to improve to be in fifth, 1m:22.075. Rubens had also returned to his pit with an hour remaining. Nico was now sixth from Button, Rubens, Hamilton, and Kubica in tenth. Alguersuari was up to eleventh, 1m:22.469. Webber was back out joined shortly by Massa. Rosberg and Schumacher were down the order in thirteenth and fourteenth. Rosberg was able to move up the times with a 1m:22.044 to be fifth. Vettel was back out as Webber went fastest in sector one with his lap time a 1m:20.838 to be 0.105 behind Vettel. Rubens had come back out joining Nico. Nico was now seventh and Rubens ninth.

Nico would pit with just under fifty minutes remaining. Petrov was now in sixth while Webber was able to move ahead of Vettel with a 1m:20.601. He was now 0.132 ahead of Vettel while Alonso moved up to third, 1m:21.296. After going fastest Webber would pit while for Rubens he would continue his run having complete sixteen laps. Alonso would improve with a 1m:21.012 but would remain in third. Petrov would continue to show some pace moving up to fourth, 1m:21.195. Team-mate Kubica was now in sixth, 1m:22.008. Nico was back out and on his first lap would set a personal best moving up to sixth, 1m:21.794. Nico was running on the softer tyres for this run while Rubens was till in his pit. Hamilton was now also out on the super soft tyres and would move up to fifth, 1m:21.308. Massa was now in sixth seeing Nico drop to seventh. Rubens was now in twelfth as more drivers started to run on the super soft tyres.

Schumacher would aslo find time on the softer tyres moving up to eighth, 1m:21.773. Massa was also on the softer tyre while Vettel would come back out. On the option tyre Alonso would go fastest in sector one. He would complete the lap remaining in third, 1m:21.012. Rubens was back out currently in fourteenth. Nico had pitted with thirty minutes remaining. Webber would set a 1m:20.597 to remain fastest, being quickest in the final two sectors. Vettel was still second from Alonso and Massa. Petrov was still fifth from Hamilton, Kubica, Nico, Button, and Schumacher in tenth. Vettel would respond to Webber with a 1m:20.087 to be 0.510 ahead of Webber, setting his time on the super soft tyres. Rubens was now twelfth, 1m:21.844, while both of the Ferrari's were in the 1m:20 seconds. Nico was back out as Vettel continued to improve in the middle sector but would hit traffic and not improve.

Webber had pitted while Alonso had moved up to second with a time of 1m:20.584. Vettel would return to his pit while for Williams Rubens was also back in his pit while both Alonso and Petrov had come back out. With twenty minutes remaining Vettel was leading from Alonso, Webber, Massa, Petrov, Hamilton, Kubica, Nico, Button, and Schumacher in tenth. Webber would also come back out while Nico would continue with his run. Rubens was also out on the track with seventeen minutes left in the session. With the drivers having taken the edge off their super soft tyres it would be unlikely to see any major changes in the times. Drivers like Webber were out on their heavy fuel runs. Vettel was back out with the track now very busy. Massa had returned to the track with of the top ten only Alonso still in the pits.

Alonso would come back out while Vettel would pit but would return after a short stop. Every car, except Kovalainen, was out on the track with eight minutes remaining. Vettel's stop was to allow his team to check his car as Vettel reported that he felt there was something loose. Alonso would pit with only a few minutes remaining. Nico and Rubens were still in eighth and twelfth while Alonso would return to the track. The session would come to an end with the top ten remaining unchanged. Nico and Rubens would finish in eighth and twelfth. It was a session that did not see any real improvement from both of the Williams drivers. Now it was a case of whether they will be able to find extra time overnight as they prepare for Saturday.
