Anyone for a massage?
By Ginger Gill January 27 2003
I often watched 'tv rugby', favourite players included Deano, Jez Harris, Rory Underwood & Johno, therefore the team I liked was TIGERS for 3 reasons:
a) because they were fairly local and everyone else supported Stains, so I wanted to be different! b) they played good rugby (yes! I knew some of the rules)! c) Handsome lads!

But I'd never really thought about going to a premiership match. I always went with my friend to watch my local team in East/Mid 3 for 2 reasons:- 1)to keep her company(her chap played) and I could tell her what was going on and the aim of the game,( sometimes we didn't know, don't think the players did either)! 2)to give first aid/MASSAGE that was required before/during/after the match, honest! I am fully qualified!

One cold wintery day, my local team (Deeping) were playing in Leics. Tigers were playing Bath that day, as we stood watching and getting frozen cos there wasn't much to cheer about! We could hear the noise from Welford Road TIGERS! TIGERS! What am I doing here I thought when I could be at Welford Road? That was the start of it.

Also one of my friends (from the Crumbie Terrace) had started to work at the same hospital as myself, we got talking about rugby - as you do! And the next minute I was going to see Tigers, then I was hooked! That was 1996, got my season ticket the following year and been a regular ever since.

My most memorable match at Welford Road was against Bath, when the trophy was passed around the fans on the pitch! I spied a certain S.Barnes in the bar and promptly asked who in his opinion was the best team (I knew my opinion) Tigers he replied, maybe it was because my mate had a pint of beer placed above his head, he didn't want to get wet again! Or maybe he was just plain honest.

My favourite away game was Paris, European Cup final, The atmosphere was electric, also the Bristol game when we won the championship, memories of Neil Back and the cap! and 'are you watching stuart barnes'!

Now I wonder if the Tigers know I'm fully qualified in sports injuries. I'm sure the likes of Johno & Stimmo would appreciate a good post match massage! These are my memories and here's to many more hopefully in Dublin and at Twickers!
