My Trip to Baseball Heaven (Part Two)

Lou Gehrig Memorial

Join me for day 2 of my visit Yankee Stadium. Again we arrived early. I knew where I was heading today so I made a sharp left as we got through the gates and headed right to the line for Monument Park. Today I had to get a few photos.

The previous day had been too emotion filled to even think of this but there was no way I could leave without at least a few pictures.

Once inside the park I headed right for my favorites, Ruth, Gehrig and Mantle. The photos were not the best, but I had them. The only one I really wanted and could not get was Roger Marris. There was a large gathering around his memorial. Someone said that some of the people were family members, but I can't say for sure if that was a fact. I made my trip around the park as quickly as I could. I already had some very wonderful memories. I did not want my lingering to stop someone else leaving with their memories too.

This day though I had a not so pleasant memory too. Our seats for this second game were in the upper section of the stadium.

Now me, I'm not one for heights, and those seats were REALLY high. I'm looking up at my seat where my husband and son are already sitting. I'm thinking to myself, "I ain't going up there!" My husband is trying to get my attention. I'm thinking, "Oh yeah I can see you, but that's as far as it's going. No way am I getting up there." Geoff eventually comes down and says he will hold my hand whilst I go up there. Still this person ain't going anywhere!

Just before the 4th inning the nice security guy that I have been talking to in my safe haven down the tunnel says,

"Look I know you don't want to go up there, but I'm going to get into trouble if I let you stay here any longer."

At that moment Mark came down. Terrified I follow him to the seat, eyes closed. (You can't imagine how stupid that was to have my eyes closed as those steps are very steep and in most parts there are no rails to hold.) Still in the end I made it to the seat. I sat holding on to the seat for dear life all through the game.

Coming down was not quite as bad as there were people all around me, but I can tell you right now there is no way, not ever, not for a million dollars will anyone EVER get me back up there again! Nope hights like that are for birds, planes... and "The People In The Sky" at Yankee Stadium.
