just watched the mens and womens varsity rugby matches on itv4 today - Cambridge v oxford - what a waste of nearly 5 hours. the womens match especially was laughable. women play rugby- they could not even catch the ball. it was shocking. they should not be allowed to play rugby again. as for the men - that was not much better. surely itv should have a rethink and not show such utter garbage on our screens again. I watched nearly every match in this summers mens rugby world cup in japan and the standard of rugby is worlds apart.

Not wanting to be a contrarian, but I probably disagree. And I'm not sure that it's ITV that need to be having a rethink. The television networks are probably quite well aware who is likely to be watching during the day. And I should imagine they specifically cater programmes for stay-at-home mums, shut-ins, the unemployed et al. As for women playing rugby, I'm all for it.

More of an observation than a criticism, but you do seem to spend an inordinate amount of time watching television. thumbs down football friend thumbs down

I thought the men's game was very evenly contested

the fact is all the people who take part are toffs and stuck up posh people who go to university and they cannot play rugby for toffee.

I should imagine much more entertaining, watching middle-aged chain-smoking fatties and couch potatoes/armchair football supporters trying their hand at rugby. That would likely make great viewing. It could only be topped if they were matched against girly girls from Cambridge. I should probably fancy the girls to thump 'em off the field. And run circles around the lot of 'em

ok chippy man. what I want to know is who invented the varsity rugby match and the boat race. both of them are Cambridge v oxford and everyone who takes part is a stuck up posh twerp who is about as interesting as a ten ton pile of poo. these two sporting events should be scrapped and consigned to the history books.

I was schooled in Cambridge, and whenever the boat race is contested, I always back Cambridge for the win. Merry Christmas, Baldy.
