Autosport has another article today with some interesting stuff from Carter on Williams's work on correlating data from the factory with the track: Williams must "keep perspective" over rapid gains with 2019 F1 car

Needless to say, adventurous expectations, but more realistically if by Abu Adabi, George Russel's Team can show some real improvement, I think there should be some be optimism for 2020.

There is also a lot from Dave Robson
Quote:
senior race engineer Dave Robson
"So now as we do these development tests and correlation tests the data quality and quantity are both off the scale compared to where we used to be," he said.
"You need the tools to process that data at the same rate as we gather it as well.
"You have to have matched gear pairs across the whole business.
"There's no point having the best rakes in the world and doing the best experiments in the world and not having the analysis tools of the same calibre to support them.
"Now we go round the whole loop a lot quicker. It's not just about designing the car, it's designing the tools to design the car."
And this sounds strange to me in 2 ways
1st: Seems as team slept last few years and now awoke looked around and.... "we need data, more data, better data!!!"
2nd: " it's designing the tools to design the car" ??? really? is Williams in position to do all this by themselves? aren't there industrial standards or proven partners, or outsourcing way of doing this? This brings situation when if sth goes wrong you will never know if you made mistake designing car or designing tools, or both... weird.

Maybe he has a bit of Ronspeak in himself. To me, he means they need better correlation between track data and wind tunnel, better job with CFD and maybe they lack a trackside genius like Mark Gillan to use all of the data they are gathering in a useful way.

None of the things above are unreachable for a team in size of Williams.

I’m looking forwards to a strong 2nd half of the season. Improving all the way home!
